Hunting Whitetail Deer

Whitetail Deer
Whitetail Deer
The whitetail deer may be the most sought after game animal in United States. It is also, at the present time, the most common deer on earth. Forty subspecies of the animal are known in Central and North America and yet another nine subspecies in South America. The population of the animals in North America is estimated at 20-to 2-5 million. The very fact that nearly 11 million hunters pursue them every drop makes them the most popular sport in the United States.

While the life of those animals is 11 or 12 years, most do not live that long in the wild. Some die of illness, others are killed by predators o-r predators, and others are hit by cars. I have had first-hand experience with the latter. Over an interval of 21 months, I struck 4 deer while operating on the highways in southeastern Ohio.

Whitetail deer often inhabit a comparatively small area unless they're required to visit elsewhere as a result of harsh weather or other problems. Long, raw winters in certain of the northern states may drive deer to visit 50 miles or more in search of food. In western states, where in fact the habitat is more expansive, deer have larger home ranges. Yet another factor influencing deer activity may be the occurrence of does in the area, especially in western states. These deer should move longer distances to feed, breed, and bed.

Because of the abundance of whitetail deer and the popularity of hunting them, legislation and training allow us to make sure the protection and continuation of the activity. As far right back as 1937, the Pittman-Robertson Act, also referred to as the Federal Aid in Wild-life Restoration Act, was signed in-to law. It provided capital to control wild-life populations, buy hunting land, and pay-for rogue education programs through a federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition. At the moment, 49 U.S. states and all of the Canadian provinces have requirements for hunter training courses. Successful completion of the course in a single state allows the purchase of a hunting license in the other states and Canada. But, some states do require additional knowledge for hunting with archery, handguns, or muzzle-loading gear.

Through these efforts, shopping has become among the safest of outdoor recreational activities. Among the reasons that hunting injuries make front page news is that they're so rare. It's better than baseball, soccer, baseball and even golf. Statistically, there's a larger danger of injury while driving in your vehicle planning to and returning from your hunting location than during your hunting search. Allow it to be even safer by obeying all of the security rules presented in-the information found in the hunter education course.
